When Danielle and I bought our house we had a similar thought, “This house has a lot of potential.”
When you step back and look at the house though, it really is a nice house. Everything was done correctly the first time. Unfortunately somewhere down the road one of the owners decided to be a handyman and didn’t know what they were doing. They thankfully limited themselves to cosmetics and so fixing their fixes is quite simple but a nuisance.
So why is it stuck in our heads that our house has potential instead of just acknowledging that it’s a nice house? Well, we bought this house with most of the renovation plans set in our heads, so when we see our empty living room we really envision the stone fireplace that’s going to be there in the next year. When we look at the linoleum floors in the kitchen, our minds start racing about what tile would look good there.
It’s always a good idea to be looking towards your end goal, but sometimes you need to step back and re-evaluate. Just because it’s different than what you want doesn’t mean it isn’t already nice.
