This weekend, one of LD’s best friends and his dog, Snoopy, came to visit. Unfortunately for the always needs things in order Tasha, Snoopy is still a rambunctious puppy (around 1 year old) who has previously not lived by any rules except his own. This made the day extremely challenging for both her and Snoopy.
LD and I are very strict with our dogs, which is what has helped Tasha grow from a overly anxious and at times aggressive dog to merely excitable. Because LD’s friend, Mike, was looking for some tips for working with Snoopy, LD and I held him to the same standards as our two dogs. No, you cannot put your paws up on the counter, and no, you don’t get to just run away gleefully when we are correcting you. I think Snoopy learned that second lesson the hard way. By the end of the day, we were all tired. Ok, Tasha was exhausted even earlier and was given some time to herself to take a nap. I think she passed out immediately.
When Arccos had had enough of Snoopy intentially pushing Tasha’s buttons, he took control. It is a rare site to see mild mannered Arccos really take control, but he did it, to all of the humans shock and amazement. After that, Snoopy was a perfect angel and took a nap on the dog bed in the living room. No one can really correct a dog’s behavior like another dog can. And, Arccos earned LD’s respect. We have been a much closer family unit since, but I think we are also all still trying to sleep off the excitement of the weekend.
