The weather has definitely gotten colder around here (aka Wisconsin). We are already starting to get some snow and the highs are below freezing already. It is going to be a long winter. A really long winter.
I am usually against putting up any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving, but it looks like we will have to take advantage of the only weekend expected to be above freezing and put our lights up this weekend. For all of my family coming for Thanksgiving, (yes we are hosting this year) no mean comments. I know that you are Jewish while LD and I are Christian and no we are not trying to convert you. We are thinking about safety while celebrating and you will just have to deal with it!
However, I feel like everything is skipping Thanksgiving and going straight to Christmas this year. I saw ads for Christmas shopping starting on Thanksgiving 1st. Most stores have up their Christmas decorations already and several are planning on being open on Thanksgiving, because, well, it’s apparently not that important anymore. Even the weather is now skipping Thanksgiving and looking to get a not-so-needed head start on winter.
I like to keep the two holidays separate and equally important due to some family members not celebrating Christmas, but perhaps this year I will cave. Maybe some Christmas music will get my butt into gear on the homework assignments I really need to get finished. Maybe I will get an early start on assembling our Christmas presents for our family members. If the true importance of Christmas is family and giving, why not start early? Those are important messages all year round.
Are you starting Christmas celebrations and traditions early this year or are you holding out until after Thanksgiving? What are some of your traditions?
